MU College of Engineering, Raytheon partnering on National Defense Fellowship Program

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Engineering students at the University of Missouri will now have the opportunity for hands-on learning while working on the national systems that keep all of us safe. Administrators at the University of Missouri announced today a partnership with Raytheon to provide fellowships for MU College of Engineering students.

The MU Raytheon National Defense Fellowship Program will seek high-achieving sophomores and juniors for internships designed to provide a world-class experience for students. Participants will work on critical and challenging defense and national security projects. This fellowship will build a pipeline of talented engineers to fill Raytheon’s full-time national defense workforce.

This is the only partnership of its kind between a university and Raytheon nationwide, and it will offer a $10,000 signing bonus upon acceptance into the internship program and an additional $10,000 bonus when the student graduates and begins working for Raytheon full time. In addition, Raytheon will cover the cost for students to receive their security clearance and cover additional expenses as the interns take part in summer internships at Raytheon.

“This program is a tremendous opportunity for Mizzou engineering students interested in the defense industry,” said Elizabeth Loboa, dean of the MU College of Engineering. “It is experiential learning of the highest level and provides an excellent start to the careers of our Mizzou Made engineering leaders.”

“Mizzou continues to build upon its partnerships with industry that not only enhance our students’ opportunities, but also helps to improve our national security,” said Mark McIntosh, vice president for research and economic development at the UM System and vice chancellor for research, graduate studies and economic development at MU. “Our partnership with Raytheon will ensure that MU College of Engineering students will participate in vital, cutting-edge research and educational enrichment that will put them on the road to success following graduation.”
