Story Contact: , munewsbureau@missouri.edu

Based on a predicted, historic weather event and to ensure the safety of the campus community, University of Missouri Chancellor Brady Deaton has announced full closure of the MU campus and the cancellation of all classes, effective 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, through Tuesday night, Feb. 1. Students are asked to notify their families of this announcement.

The university will announce by 4 p.m. on Tuesday plans for Wednesday.

Due to the 24/7 nature of some campus operations, those employees considered “situationally critical” are expected to report to work. All other employees should remain at home in accordance with MU HR policy. UM System personnel are included in this policy.

Staff should check with their supervisors to determine if they are “situationally critical.” Employees reporting to campus should park in their assigned parking places. There is no street parking so as to allow for snow clearance. It is important to note there will be no city bus service in Columbia on Tuesday.

All University of Missouri Health Care hospitals, including University Hospital, the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute and Women’s and Children’s Hospital, will be open. For information, visit www.muhealth.org.

For the benefit of students on campus, the MU Student Center, Student Recreation Complex and selected dining facilities will be open. Ellis Library will be open until 8 p.m. tonight and from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

A full list of event cancellations will be kept updated on MU Alert. To provide cancellation announcements, please contact croyl@missouri.edu or rollinsj@missouri.edu.

Students, employees and parents should check MU Alert for updates.
