MEDIA ADVISORY: Mizzou student teams pitch business startups for $30,000 in cash prizes

On March 19, three student teams will win cash prizes and earn a spot at the UM System contest

March 19th, 2019

Story Contact: Eric Stann, 573-882-3346, stanne@missouri.edu

WHAT: Some students at Mizzou will soon be one step closer to bringing their business startup dreams to reality. Ten student teams are wrapping up eight weeks of educational workshops, mentoring and coaching from local entrepreneurs. Now, much like on the television series Shark Tank, each team will have 10 minutes to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges. The three winning teams will share $30,000 in cash prizes and represent Mizzou at the UM System competition on April 5.

Participants are part of the Entrepreneur Quest Student Accelerator, a new UM System program. One of UM System President Mun Choi’s initiatives that he announced earlier this academic year, the program’s goal is to see more student entrepreneurs launching businesses in Missouri.

WHEN & WHERE:
9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19
Monsanto Auditorium
Bond Life Sciences Center, MU Campus

NOTES: This event is free and open to the public. Media wishing to attend are invited to contact Eric Stann of the MU News Bureau at stanne@missouri.edu or 573-882-3346. There will be media availability with several of the organizers of the competition.
