MEDIA ADVISORY: And the award goes to … George P. Smith! Nobel watch party to be held in Student Center

December 10th, 2018

Story Contact: Christian Basi, 573-882-4430, BasiC@missouri.edu

WHAT:           Since 1901, the Nobel Prizes have been presented on Dec. 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death. This year, Mizzou’s own George P. Smith will walk the historic stage at the Stockholm Concert Hall to receive the most prestigious award in science and the humanities. In doing so, he will become the first MU professor to be named a Nobel Laureate. MU Tigers can get a backstage pass to the Nobel festivities and celebrate Smith during a watch party on the MU campus. The party will include a complimentary breakfast and reports from MU student journalists traveling with Smith in Sweden.

Anyone who can’t make it to campus is invited to participate in the watch party through social media. Following Mizzou or using #MizzouNobel on social media, including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, individuals will be able to experience the cross-continental watch party with the Mizzou community virtually.

Additionally, the award ceremony will be livestreamed at www.nobelprize.org
