MEDIA ADVISORY: MU officials to recognize Patriot Day with wreath-laying ceremony

WHAT: University of Missouri officials will remember the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, during a memorial service on Tuesday, Sept. 11. Beginning at 10 a.m., the bell in Switzler Hall will ring 17 times in recognition of the 17th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Chancellor Alexander Cartwright, along with faculty, staff, student and alumni representatives, will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony. At the conclusion of the ceremony, a Marching Mizzou trumpeter will play Taps, a 24-note melody that honors the men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the cause of freedom.

WHO: Processional participants will include:

  • MU Chancellor Alexander Cartwright
  • Kyle Smith, Missouri Student Veterans Association
  • Kevin Zumwalt, MU Fire and Rescue Training Institute Interim Director
  • Doug Schwandt, MU Chief of Police
  • James Musgraves, Mizzou Military Vets Alumni Association President

WHEN: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018

WHERE: The ceremony will begin on the north porch of Jesse Hall and conclude on the north side of the Columns on Francis Quadrangle.
