Media Advisory: Homecoming has the ‘Rhythm of the Roar’

WHAT: The Mizzou Alumni Association invites the Columbia community to join the “Rhythm of the Roar” Homecoming events. Thousands of Mizzou alumni will flood the campus to celebrate their tiger pride for the 106th annual homecoming celebrations. Events kicked off last week with the Homecoming Blood Drive, one of the largest college-based blood drives in the nation.

Anchored by Saturday’s football game against the University of Idaho, the week leading up to the match holds events for the whole family. Everyone can enjoy the talents, local food and decorations around the Mizzou campus and downtown Columbia.

WHEN & WHERE:

Monday, Oct. 16 – Wednesday, Oct. 18

6:30 p.m.         Homecoming Talent Show

Students perform skits, dances and songs. The nightly show is at Jesse Hall, but it can also be livestreamed.

Friday, Oct. 20

All day             Decorate the District

Campus organizations decorate storefront windows in downtown Columbia to show off Tiger Pride.

11:30 a.m.       Hall of Fame Luncheon

This year’s inductees are Mizzou basketball coaching legend Norm Stewart and Panda Express founders Andrew and Peggy Cherng. The Mizzou Homecoming Hall of Fame honors high-achieving alumni who have exhibited excellence in their chosen field.

The luncheon will be held at the Reynolds Alumni Center and media are invited to cover the event.

4-7 p.m.           LGBTQ Happy Hour

All friends and alumni 21 and older are welcome to visit Top Ten Wines to reconnect, celebrate and learn how to get involved.

6-9 p.m.           Campus Decorations

Stroll through Greektown to see fraternities’ and sororities’ 2017 Campus Decs based on the Rhythm of the Roar theme.

6-9 p.m.           Taste of Columbia

Enjoy delicious food from local Columbia vendors while walking around Greektown checking out Campus Decorations!

7 p.m.              Step Show

Each year, National Panhellenic Council organizations face off in a battle to see who can stroll and step the best.

8:30 p.m.         Spirit Rally

Stop by Traditions Plaza to get excited for the big game with Truman the Tiger, the Mizzou Spirit Squads and Marching Mizzou.

Saturday, Oct. 21

7:30 a.m.       Parade

Watch flashy floats, fancy cars and a little band music as the parade winds its way through campus and downtown. A full map is here.­­­­

11 a.m.            Homecoming Game

Cheer on the Tigers as they take on the Idaho Vandals and stick around during halftime to see who will become the 2017 Homecoming King and Queen.
