MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Counseling Center to Celebrate Healthy Body Image During Eating Disorder Awareness Week

WHAT: The MU Counseling Center, in collaboration with campus partners, aims to promote healthy body image and raise awareness about the prevention, detection and treatment of eating disorders during the week of Feb. 23. Displays will be posted in multiple locations on campus throughout the week.

On Monday, students are encouraged to post positive messages on the mirrors of the public restrooms in Memorial Student Union and the MU Student Center. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to take photo booth-style pictures in the Student Center on Tuesday, Feb. 24 and post them to their social media accounts.

Tuesday, Feb. 24
Story of Recovery
11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., Clinton Club, Athletics Training Complex
An alumna of Castlewood Treatment Center for Eating Disorders will share her experience of having an eating disorder, seeking treatment and achieving recovery. A question-and-answer session will follow the talk, and Counseling Center staff will be available to provide resources.

Feed Your Body Image with Interactive Theatre: Nutrition 101
6 – 8 p.m., Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center, Room 116
Join MU’s Interactive Theatre Troupe for a performance that will engage the audience in creative dialogue and problem-solving about issues of appearance, body image and food choices.

Wednesday, Feb. 25
Body Monologues
5:30 – 7 p.m., Multicultural Center, Room G107, MU Student Center
At this slam poetry event, members of different student organizations will join to perform poetry about body image and engage in active dialogue with each other about body positivity.
