MEDIA ADVISORY: MU’s Bond Life Sciences Center’s Science Café Focuses Next Public Talk on Hydraulic Fracking

WHAT: Science Café Columbia continues its mission to inspire informal, relaxed conversations about popular science topics. Susan Nagel, associate professor of  obstetrics, gynecology, and women’s health in the University of Missouri School of Medicine, and adjunct professor of biological sciences in the College of Arts and Science at MU,  will “crack open” issues behind the use of endocrine disruptors, or chemicals that can interfere with hormone systems in people, involved in hydraulic fracking.

An offshoot of an international movement started by PBS’ “NOVA,” Science Café is a grassroots forum that takes place in a neighborhood coffeehouse, library or bar. Meant to include members of the community who may not normally get involved in the science conversation, the Bond Life Sciences Center sponsors Science Café Columbia as a means of nurturing a two-way conversation between scientists and the public.
