MEDIA ADVISORY: Fashion Forward Event to Stop Human Trafficking

WHAT: Freedom by Fashion will display fair trade clothing, accessories and the work of students in the Department of Textile and Apparel Management in the University of Missouri College of Human Environmental Sciences, Stephens College and local designers. Proceeds from the show will go toward stopping human trafficking and helping victims.

Presented by the Central Missouri Stop Human Trafficking Coalition, Mustard Seed Fair Trade and the Stephens College fashion department, the event will include a silent auction, a raffle and an experiential event called “In Their Shackles.”

There will be live music and refreshments provided by local establishments,  including Taste and See, Café Berlin, Sycamore, Broadway Brewery and Les Bougeois.

WHO: The Central Missouri Stop Human Trafficking Coalition is an organization dedicated to ending the modern-day slave trade. Funding will go toward training professionals to identify and respond to human trafficking cases and assist survivors in rebuilding their lives.

WHERE: Parkade Plaza, Columbia, Mo.

WHEN: 5- 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 26

NOTE: Tickets are available for $15 ahead of time, $20 at the door and $12 for students at the MSA/GPC box office.
