MEDIA ADVISORY:The Race to the Edge of the Universe

Expert discusses telescopes of the 20th century and who viewed the heavens through them at the University of Missouri.

WHAT: The public is invited to the September installment of Cosmic Conversations with a lecture from Caitlin Casey on ‘20th Century Telescopes: the Race to the Edge of the Universe.” After the lecture, the public is invited to view the heavens from the Laws Observatory.

The Cosmic Conversations lecture series is hosted by the University of Missouri Department of Physics and Astronomy, the Laws Observatory and the Central Missouri Astronomical Association.

WHO: Caitlin Casey is a former Columbia resident who recently received her doctorate from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. She has accepted a postdoctoral research position as a Hubble Fellow at the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawaii.

WHERE: Room 120, Physics Building, MU Campus

 Laws Observatory is located on the fifth floor of the Physics Building.

WHEN: Discussion: 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 1

Observatory Hours: 8 to 10 p.m. on Wednesdays.
