MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Welcomes Freshmen, Returning Students with Tiger Walk, Concert on the Quad, “Zero-Waste” Picnic

WHAT:          

University of Missouri officials will welcome the freshman class and returning students with several “Fall Welcome” activities including Tiger Walk and the Concert on the Quad featuring Marching Mizzou. The activities begin Wednesday, Aug. 18.

WHO:            

New and returning Mizzou students.

WHEN & WHERE:    

Wednesday, Aug. 18               

Mizzou Lunchtime Talent – Noon – 1 p.m. Local student musicians, comedians and other performers entertain at the Food Court in the new MU Student Center.

Midnight BBQ – 10 p.m. – 1 a.m., Rollins Street, in front of the MU Student Center.

Thursday, Aug. 19

Mizzou Reads groups discuss Generation Me – 3:30 – 5 p.m., various locations. Readers not living on campus are invited to Room 2-6 Agriculture Building at 3:15 p.m. 

“Zero-Waste” Campus Picnic and Spirit Rally – 5 p.m., Mizzou Recreation Complex. Marching Mizzou, the Golden Girls and Mizzou Cheerleaders will lead the rally. By using materials that are made from various compostable materials, including the trash bags, Campus Dining officials are hosting a picnic that will result in no waste.

Friday, Aug. 20

Paint the M – 9 a.m., Faurot Field. New students are invited to help paint the big “M” on the north side of Faurot Field, which was created by the freshman class of 1927. Participants must wear closed-toed shoes.

 Saturday, Aug. 21

Step Forward Day – 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., Tiger Plaza (Carnahan Quadrangle). Step Forward Day is an annual one-day service event for new students. Volunteers participate in service projects throughout Columbia.

 Sunday, Aug. 22

Tiger Walk – 6:30 p.m., Francis Quadrangle. Tiger Walk is the official ceremony to welcome new students to the university. Tiger Stripe ice cream will be served.

 Concert on the Quad featuring Marching Mizzou – 7 p.m., Francis Quadrangle. The public is welcome to attend. For more activities, visit stufftodo.missouri.edu
