WHAT: MU will host a symposium to showcase its successful partnership with the University of the Western Cape. The UM Board of Curators launched the system-wide program in 1986 in response to students’ protests of apartheid in South Africa. The University of Missouri was the first American university to partner with a non-white South African school. The focus of the partnership includes teaching and research in the sciences and social sciences, as well as support for artistic projects.

The event will highlight current and past participants’ collaborative projects aimed to advance a once under-resourced institution to become one of the top seven universities in Africa. Attendees also will learn the process to apply for a University of Missouri South African Education Program (UMSAEP) grant.

WHEN:           Monday, April 9 at 3 p.m.

WHERE:         MU Reynolds Alumni Center, Columns D&E
