MEDIA ADVISORY: MU Welcomes Incoming and Returning Students with Pizza Party, Tiger Walk and Midnight BBQ

WHAT: University of Missouri officials will welcome new and returning students with several Fall Welcome events, including ‘Paint the M,’ the traditional Tiger Walk and a campus-wide pizza party. The activities will begin Wednesday, Aug. 20.

WHO: New, transfer and returning MU students

WHEN & WHERE:
Wednesday, Aug. 20
Midnight BBQ
10 p.m.-1 a.m.
MU Student Center

Friday, Aug. 22
Paint the M
9-11 a.m.
Faurot Field
New students will paint the “M” on the north side of Faurot Field, taking part in a Mizzou tradition that dates back to 1927. Participants must wear closed-toed shoes.

Wellness Resource Fair
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Stotler Lounge, Memorial Student Union
Dozens of booths will be set up by campus organizations to show students the best of college life at Mizzou and the wellness resources available on campus. Please visit wellness.missouri.edu for more information.

Saturday, Aug. 23
Step Forward Day
8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
During Step Forward Day, students will have opportunities to volunteer at local service agencies and participate in service projects throughout the Columbia community. Participants will receive a free T-shirt and complimentary breakfast.

Sunday, Aug. 24
All-Campus Photo
6:15 p.m.
Francis Quadrangle
Prior to Tiger Walk, students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends will have the opportunity to be in a panoramic photo that will be taken to mark the University’s 175th anniversary. Participants will be able to tag themselves in the photo on various social media platforms or purchase a print copy of the picture.

Tiger Walk
6:30-7:30 p.m.
Francis Quadrangle
Incoming students will walk through the Columns toward Jesse Hall to symbolically mark their entrance into Mizzou.

Marching Mizzou Concert on the Quad
7 p.m.
Francis Quadrangle
After Tiger Walk, Marching Mizzou will perform select pieces from their repertoire. The public is invited to attend.

All-Campus Pizza Party
4-6 p.m.
Shakespeare’s Pizza, 224 S. Ninth Street
Students can stop by Shakespeare’s Pizza, a traditional Columbia favorite, and enjoy free food, beverages, music and more.
