MEDIA ADVISORY: MU to Host Bond Lecture Series on International Development

WHAT: The University of Missouri will host the Christopher S. “Kit” Bond Lecture Series featuring experts who will discuss the United States’ involvement in international development including worldwide natural disasters, American diplomacy and food insecurity. The lecture series will feature Rajiv Shah, administrator for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

As the administrator for USAID, Shah leads the efforts of more than 9,600 professionals in 80 missions around the world. Since taking on his role in Dec. 2009, Shah has managed the U.S. government’s response to the 2010 earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; co-chaired the State Department’s first review of American diplomacy and development operations; and leads President Obama’s Feed the Future food security initiative. In addition, Shah also leads “USAID Forward,” a set of reforms to USAID’s business model focusing on seven key areas including procurement, science and technology, and monitoring and evaluation.

The Christopher S. “Kit” Bond Lecture Series is sponsored by the MU Harry S. Truman School of Public Affairs and provides a forum on campus for nationally and internationally recognized leaders to explore issues of contemporary significance that impact economic, science, political and security policy.
