CALENDAR ITEM: MU Brings Former Judge, TV Personality and Juvenile Justice Expert to Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Event

WHAT: The University of Missouri will celebrate the legacy of civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. with a  lecture by TV personality Judge Glenda Hatchett.  Hatchett will present “Dare to Take Charge: How to Live & Lead with Purpose”.  The lecture will discuss issues of personal development and leadership.

WHO: Nationally recognized as an expert on juvenile and social issues, Hatchett will speak with authority on saving the generations of today and the future. With compassion and credibility, she affirms that her brand of justice matters for all.

The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Judge Hatchett was recognized as Outstanding Jurist of the Year by the National Bar Association after only her first year on the bench. She is the recipient of the NAACP Thurgood Marshall Award and founded the Truancy Intervention Project, which enlists the help of legal volunteers to provide early intervention with truants. Hatchett presided over the twice Emmy-nominated syndicated show, Judge Hatchett, which ran for nine seasons.

In addition, Hatchett – a former senior attorney and manager of public relations for Delta Air Lines – was named among the “100 of the Best and Brightest in Corporate America” by Ebony magazine. She also is the author of “Say What You Mean and Mean What You Say and Dare to Take Charge,” an account of the important life lessons she has learned and witnessed from her years on the bench.
